Scrum is the process where decisions are based on observation, experience, and experimentation. Scrum has three pillars: transparency, inspection, and adaptation. Scrum is made up of three roles: the product owner, who is the leader of the project; the ScrumMaster, who is a mentor and advisor to the team; and finally, the development team, who is responsible for going through the design process to solve a problem issued by the product owner. Through the design process for this class, scrum principles were used to collaborate successfully as groups.
Taskboards were the main way groups utilized Scrum principles in EDD and were given for each sprint for the class. Sprints are work completed in small cycles lasting up to a month. Taskboard sprints are ideally planned at a reasonable pace, and each group member is given a finite amount of time to complete tasks/assignments. In addition, taskboards were also used for daily scrums where group members would update each other on progress, obstacles, due dates, etc., in every class. After each sprint was completed, each group member was responsible for doing a review and retrospective of that sprint to see what worked, what did not, and what needed to be changed.
Every group had access to two experienced mentors in the engineering/design field and class mentors that anyone could use for help, advice, and project feedback. The main point of mentors was to get individuals with experienced backgrounds to advise groups on the project to be more successful.
